Five Peaks Challenge Conditions of Entry

The serious stuff

Please read carefully before completing your registration.

These Conditions of Entry are designed to enable the Five Peaks Challenge to run smoothly and safely. By registering to participate in the Five Peaks Challenge, you (the 'Rider') accept, agree to and are bound by these Conditions of Entry.
  • Event Organiser

    The organiser and manager of the Five Peaks Challenge (‘the Event ‘) is the Rotary Club of Murrumbidgee Canberra Incorporated ABN 23625259907 (‘the Event Organiser’) and includes where appropriate the event manager, and The Event Organiser's officers, members, employees, agents, contractors, officials, and volunteers.

  • Entry requirements

    To participate in the event all Riders must accept the Conditions of Entry of the Event (as set out herein).


    If the Rider is under the age of 18 on the day of the Event, a Parent or Guardian of the Rider must accept the Conditions of Entry on behalf of the Rider.


    If the Rider is aged 12 to 18 years on the day of the Event, a Parent or Guardian must accompany the Rider during the Event.


    If the Rider is aged less than 12 years old on the day of the Event, then the Rider may not participate in the Event.


    The Event Organiser may, in its absolute discretion and without giving reasons for its decision, accept or refuse an application for registration.

  • Modes of transport in the event

    Riders are to ride standard road legal human-powered pedal cycles in the Event including unicycles, bicycles, tandems, recumbents, tricycles, quad-cycles, electric power-assisted cycles (pedelecs or e-bikes), and kick bikes, but cannot ride electric mobility scooters, electric scooters, Segways or motorised cycles (electric or petrol motor bikes).

  • No private support vehicles

    Private support vehicles are not permitted on the course to follow or to assist Riders during the Event (to minimise traffic on the course), except to collect a Rider who is withdrawing from the Event.

  • Comply with road rules and use common sense

    During the Event, Riders must comply with all traffic and road laws, all directions issued by a police officer and all instructions given by The Event Organiser or any officer, member, volunteers, employees or officials representing The Event Organiser. Failure to do so may result in removal of the Rider from the Event.


    Riders must produce for inspection before the Event an undamaged Australian Standard approved cycling helmet and wear it at all times when riding in the Event.


    Riders in the Event must ride and otherwise behave in a safe and responsible manner and use common sense at all times.


    Riders in the Event must exercise caution on all public roads and other thoroughfares and ride defensively and courteously.

  • Preparation, training, health and safety

    Riders are responsible for ensuring that they are adequately and appropriately prepared, both physically and mentally, for the Event. Riders with any health issues or doubts prior to the Event, should immediately seek appropriate medical advice.


    If a Rider becomes ill or injured during the Event, the Event Organiser will endeavour to arrange medical transport. Any ambulance or other medical transport will be at the Rider’s expense. The Event Organiser recommends that Riders hold current ambulance service membership and/or health insurance to cover such costs.


    Rider’s pedal cycles needs to be in a good working condition prior to riding in the Event. Pedal cycles used in the Event may need to pass a brief safety check on arrival. If, in the opinion of The Event Organiser, a pedal cycle is unsafe, it cannot be used in the Event.

  • Closing Dates for entries

    Online entries close on the dates given in the Event web site.


    Entries will be accepted at the start on the day before the Event and on the day of the Event.

  • Transfer entry of cancel entry

    A Rider may transfer their entry to another person provided The Event Organiser is advised at least one week before the Event date  and the other person completes an entry form and submits it to The Event Organiser and pays an administration fee – transfer procedure


    There are no refunds or exchanges of entry fees except as required by law or as otherwise specified by the Event Organiser.

  • Communications

    Communications in relation to the Event will principally be via email. Riders should provide a valid email address when registering for the Event. If a Rider does not have access to an email address, the Rider should read the Event website which will be updated as necessary until the date of the Event.


    It is the Rider’s responsibility to read all information made available on the Event website, in emails, newsletters and and rider packs and in all other literature concerning the Event.

  • Variations to the Event

     The Event Organiser reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, to:


    (a) Change or vary the route of any of rides in the Event without notice (such change or variation is only likely to occur when fire, flood, road damage or other causes hinder access to the proposed route); or

    (b) Cancel, postpone, reschedule or change the time or place for any of the rides in the Event for any reason and at any time prior to the commencement of the Event; and


    The Event Organiser is not responsible for or liable to the Rider for any loss, damage, cost or expense, whether direct, indirect, consequential or otherwise and howsoever or wheresoever incurred by the Rider resulting from any such action taken by the Event Organiser.

  • Privacy and photography

    The Event Organiser collects, uses, discloses and otherwise handles the Rider’s personal information in accordance with the terms of its Privacy Statement available on the Event web site. All such information remains the property of the Event Organiser.


    The Rider consents to his/her details being shared with the following:


    (a) Pronet Innovations Limited, trading at eventplus for the purpose of registration in the Event.


    The Rider acknowledges and agrees that he/she may be photographed or filmed during the Event and consents to the Event Organiser using the Rider’s picture and likeness contained in any photographs or film for publicising the Event and for promoting any future ride or event to be staged by The Event Organiser or for other purposes by The Event Organiser.

  • Limited liability

    The Event is an outdoor event and will proceed notwithstanding poor weather conditions on the day of The Event. The Event Organiser is not liable to any Rider for any loss, damage, cost or expense of any kind including, but not limited to, refund of entry fees, in the event of poor weather before or during The Event.


    The Event Organiser reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, to refuse to allow a Rider to participate in The Event or to remove a Rider from The Event for breach of these terms and conditions or if it otherwise determines it appropriate to do so.

  • Acknowledgment and acceptance of conditions of entry

    By entering the Event the Rider accepts the Conditions of Entry and makes the following acknowledgements:


    (a) I acknowledge and agree that participation in the Event is inherently dangerous and that I participate in the event at my own risk.


    (b) I accept these conditions of entry and have read in full the conditions of entry (this page), the guidelines for the Event and insurance guidance.


    (c) I understand that cycling can be a hazardous activity, particularly in traffic or among pedestrians.


    (d) I accept that when riding I am at risk and may suffer or cause injury or property loss or damage. I will take care to avoid injury or damage to others and myself.


    (e) I confirm that I and any children in my care have sufficient competence and experience to participate safely in the Event.


    (f) I accept that the Event Organiser (the Rotary Club of Woden Inc.) limits its liability.


    (g) I waive, to the extent permitted by law, any claim, right or cause of action which:


    I personally; and

    each child in my care; and

    my heirs, executors and administrators and those of each child in my care


    may have in contract and civil wrongs law, arising from any personal injury, damage or loss arising out of the Event.


    (h) I accept that this release from liability operates in contract law in favour of the Event Organiser, and all officers, members, volunteers and employees of the Event Organiser, and all sponsors.


    (i) I understand that I should have my own personal liability insurance and accident cover as outlined in the insurance guidance.


    (j) If a Rider is under 18 years old, an adult must accompany them throughout the event, unless otherwise agreed in writing by The Event Organiser.


    (k) If an entrant is under 18 years old, a parent or guardian must accept the conditions of entry by clicking I accept and paying with their credit card or cheque or cash.
