The Five Peaks Challenge conducted by Woden Rotary Club helps raise funds for Australian charties

We are aligned with Active Rotarians an initiative that supports Rotary and community fitness activities and in the process, raise funding for new medical research, scholarships, health education and awareness through Australian Rotary Health.

The Five Peaks Challenge is a major fund-raiser for Woden Rotary and their supported charities.

This year were are specifically supporting SleepBus in the ACT, to assist homless women, and Australian Rotary Health, to assist with mental health research.

Homeless women’s Sleepbus for Canberra
In Canberra there is currently no emergency overnight accommodation for homeless women and there is an average of 2 to 3 months wait for them before accommodation can be found. The fastest growing cohort of homelessness is women over 55 years of age typically resulting from loss of partner, loss of income, illness or lack of sufficient superannuation.

The National Council of Women ACT Inc (NCWACT) is pursuing the establishment of crisis accommodation for women in Canberra: Sleepbus as their solution. It provides a safe, temporary overnight accommodation service, getting people off the street by offering an immediate, first stop, cost-effective solution for our society’s most vulnerable; catching them early until they can get back on their feet. The bus would be women only with their children and pets.

The first Sleepbus established in Canberra will cost about $100,000 with operating costs of about $50,000 per annum.

Woden Rotary is supporting the NCWACT to obtain and run the Sleepbus with proceeds from the Five Peaks Challenge and other fundraising activities.
